Silver maple
NativeAcer saccharinum
Soapberry (Sapindaceae) · Maple · 60–90 ft
Knowing it
Deeply cut leaves silvery underneath, fast growth, and shaggy bark. Native to river bottoms statewide and planted in countless yards.
What a tree company sees
The tree companies see most: brittle wood, included bark at narrow forks, and big trunks that hollow out. Frequent storm failures near houses; cabling and regular pruning help.
