Callery pear (Bradford pear)
InvasivePyrus calleryana
Rose (Rosaceae) · Invasive · 30–50 ft
Knowing it
The white-flowering, fish-smelling street tree of every subdivision, now seeding into fields and roadsides across Missouri as thorny wild thickets. Selling it is banned in Missouri as of 2025.
What a tree company sees
Narrow forks with included bark split apart in every ice storm; most Bradford pears fall apart by age 20. Wild trees carry thorns. Cut stumps resprout; treat them.
